Natalie's Room: Plum

So she has changed her mind... I had a blush, pink, dessert princess room all set. Samples ordered. But now she loooooves purple. Ok, truth be told, I wasn't totally committed to the last look. She gave me an out and I jumped all over it. I found this terrific toile fabric: P Kaufmann Scenic Toile Twill in Crayon. And I had a starting point. I love the mix of mod and trad (and abbreviating words obnoxiously--second glass of wine). But really, the mix of a really classic print in a colorway called "crayon" was exactly what I was looking for. Though pairing it with anything has proven to be a challenge. At first glance, easy, its purple and green... 5 returned throw pillows later and I have discovered it is more of a combination of plums, orchid, and aubergine (that's french for eggplant) and lime green, maybe even chartreuse. I should have know, IKEA would have my solution. I needed a counter point to the toile pattern, the MALIN FIGUR pillow cover is the perfect color match in a clean geometric--$7--that's a bingo! I also ordered Serena and Lily's Frame Stripe Pillow Cover, and paid $10 on just the shipping... and a week later it still hasn't arrived... hope it blows my socks off.

But to sum it up, things are really coming together. I have an antique secretary desk that belonged to my husbands great grand parents (wedding gift) in this gorg dark brown, planing on mixing it with a mod lamp and chair, throw in a fun colonial dog bust and we are almost there... more pics to come. I'm kind of annoying when I drink.

School House Rock

Maybe its the fall, or my kids first year of kindergarten, or moving to an area that is ALL about college football. Whatever it is, I am feeling super collegiate these days. Found some terrific (frameable) papers for the playroom and some other goodies...

Color Obsession: Marie Antoinette

So its no mystery, Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette is one of my most fav movies. Yeah, me and every other graphic/interior/fashion designer with or without a vajayjay. Countless bits of inspiration... here is just a nip of what I came across most recently when I was searching for artwork for the girls rooms.

The inspiration: pink, mustard, fuschia, etc. etc.

Color Obsession: Primary

Sooo, painted the powder room hunter green... it kick started me down a path I didn't expect. The color totally took me back to primary school and the dark green chalk boards. The pledge of allegiance, yellow pencils, molecular models... ok, maybe not the last one but you get the idea. Happy colors. I am now onto the girls bath and this may be the starting point. Course, we do live in a colonial house, so I couldn't waste an opportunity to use a buffalo check or toile. Love the soap. I found it at a shop down here called The Ivy Cottage, but after a quick search, I spotted it at Anthro too. Collegiate, patriotic, perfect.

Kate Upton and My Toilet

Just painted the powder room hunter by Eddie Bauer Paints. LOVE it, but started to get concerned that it turned out to be a little too log cabin, rusticy--we painted the sloped ceiling and everything. Then I saw the cover of this months Vanity Fair and got all antsy thinking about adding some ivory or gold accents. I was going for sort of a woodland sophisticate not an outhouse. Its amazing what an orchid can do.

Sorry about the iPhone picture, more to come when we finish. Oh, and sorry Kate Upton... for comparing you to my bathroom, but it sold my husband on the color.

The Chrome -vs- Oil Rubbed Bronze Conundrum

So we are in our new little house... that I adore, but now we are onto making the changes. The house is all oil rubbed bronze, doors, fixtures, hinges, knobs... everything. Some are good, some are, well, not. Our last house was mostly nickel and chrome. Do I mix, do I replace? Here are some of my fav fixtures for CHEEP to help me think it through.

Oil rubbed bronze or antique brass or whatever you want to call it first...
